There are a few steps that need to be taken before starting the actual course. The entire process is very organised and easy to get started from the get-go.
After enrolling, the training manual and headphone set were shipped to my location, and I received a confirmation and reminder email, as well as detailed information and links to required files for the training. After unboxing the headphones and the manual, the installation of the online training platform takes less than 5 minutes and is very easy to use.

The online training environment is engaging. My class size was about 6 people ranging from experienced users to users that had zero experience with 3D design software. It is easy to communicate with others and the instructor within your session. This is NOT the case with my experience with Javelin! They are extremely knowledgeable and really care about their course.
The course content is all in the manual provided, specific case studies are done together with the instructor and practice exercises are carried out individually. Time is allotted for you to complete the exercises individually but you can ask the instructor any questions during this time if you run into a situation where you need help or have any questions in general. One of the difficulties of the course is keeping up with the instructor during a case study.
I highly recommend reading through the lesson content in the manual before each lesson that way you have an idea of each step and can follow along smoothly. This course teaches you how to create parts, build assemblies, create drawings of your designs, automate design modification using excel and equations, etc.
For me I was able to follow along and complete all the lessons and exercises. I did a few on my own time and more than once because I wanted to grasp everything thoroughly plus I really enjoy it. With caring and knowledgeable instructors, high quality and thorough course content, a comprehensive manual with step-by-step instructions, plenty of exercises, and an engaging atmosphere, the Javelin Online Live Training experience is something I believe is well worth doing.

Material Science is the one topic that gives you a good foundation for your simulation setup and how to understand the results. This means that the materials are linear, elastic and isotropic but those are topics for another article. This article serves as an introduction to the engineering background needed to understand Simulation. Materials define exactly how the CAD model behaves in Simulation. Setting this up in Simulation is incredibly easy. You simply make your selection from the database to apply the material, just like you would at the CAD level.
This is shown in the image below. Although the database is the same, it will look slightly different. As you can see in the image below, the line items are the same, but there is that added visual color cue indicating the required values for Simulation. What you would call a stronger material would have a higher modulus of elasticity. For example, steel has a higher modulus of elasticity than aluminum, which has a higher modulus of elasticity than rubber.
This number, or property, is important because it defines exactly how much stress a material undergoes after it is loaded in Simulation, just like in the real world. Stress is what most designers look to as an indicator of failure in their model.

When you consider this at the atomic level, this is the strength of the bonds between atoms. In the context of the modulus of elasticity, a material is stronger because the atoms hold on to each other better.
It takes more force to separate the atoms from one another. This separation, or space between atoms, is what we see as deformation or the change in shape. In other words, when you pull on something, it stretches because the atoms are being separated. Before we can continue with the modulus of elasticity, we need to introduce the concepts of stress and strain. Every material has a map that defines its behavior when loaded.

The yield strength is used by designers as a measure of pass or fail for the design. Technically, the yield strength is a material property which marks the transition from the elastic deformation to plastic deformation.
The difference between elastic and plastic is just temporary or permanent.
